Brief Curriculum vitae

After studying at the bilingual university in Ottawa, Canada, and Freiburg in Germany, Barbara Gruehl Kipke completed her B.A. Economics at the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. She went on to complete her Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) - also at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada in 1983.

Since then, she has been working on transport related issues for more than 20 years. Her fields of expertise are the integration of sustainable transportation planning in the transportation equation.

Furthermore, she has specialized in the promotion of international marketing for the zero-emission transport modes with an emphasis on urban issues in developing countries. She ensures the inclusion of gender and pedestrian and cyclist issues are not overlooked. She was also involved in a pilot project initiated by the World Bank project on "Non-Motorized" Transport in urban Sub-Saharan Africa (ie. Kenya and Tanzania). Barbara was a founding member of European Institute for Sustainable Transport (EURIST) in 2011.  In February 2012 she was voted as a Board Member of EURIST.

Barbara has actively participated in the following Velo-City Conferences:
Munich 2007, Copenhagen 2010, Sevilla 2011, Vancouver 2012 and finally Vienna 2013.

Barbara speaks fluent English and German - her French and Spanish needs some brushing up, however. Barbara has travelled extensively through Canada, U.S.A., New Zealand, China, India, parts of Africa, always comparing how transportation has changed over the years.
